How was ECRU born?
Through the process of designing multiple homes of my own I realised that we seem to give far less care and attention to the room we sleep in (and specifically to our bed) than to our other living areas. I find this fascinating considering how much time we spend in bed (around a third of our lives) and how important sleep is to our well-being. Although this has begun to change more recently, it translated into a lack of options that suited my needs.
I felt a real disappointment that my bed did not live up to the same design and quality standards as the rest of my house. I was yearning to have that same sense of pride in my bedroom environment as I had when stepping into other living spaces.
For a long time, I was searching for luxury bed linens and bedding accessories that would elevate the aesthetic of my bed, thereby creating a more striking centrepiece. My aim was to evoke the look and mood of a high-end hotel through use of understated and tasteful bed linens and sophisticated styling, whilst retaining the feeling that I was in my own home. What was also important to me, considering the proximity of bed sheets to the bare skin, was to source linens of an extremely high quality and softness.
It also became apparent to me how difficult it was to find “off the shelf” bed linens that fitted properly in the case of non-standard sizes such as extra deep mattresses.
Thus, my personal search gave rise to the creation of ECRU and a desire to assist others with the same aspirations for their bedroom.
What does ECRU offer?
At ECRU we make bespoke luxury bed linens and bedding accessories such as blankets, quilts and decorative cushions from the highest quality fabrics. Each item is created by artisans with years of experience at our dedicated atelier in Italy. We are dedicated to preserving traditional craft and it is for this reason that all our linens are cut and sewn by hand, checked by the naked eye and packaged carefully by human beings. We understand the importance of heritage and believe that there is no substitute for the human touch. In line with offering only the best to our clients, we are committed to honouring our “Made in Italy” promise and small-scale production.
We use only the best fabrics woven from the finest yarns, at an Italian textiles mill, which are tested and monitored regularly to ensure their quality and to enable continuous enhancement of our offerings. We offer a wide range of fabrics at various thread counts from percale and sateen cotton (including the world-renowned exclusive Giza cotton) to linen, linen/cotton blends and 100% silk. They are limited to natural colours such as white, ivory and light grey.
We work with classic and timeless embroidery styles and finishings, such as the single cord or double hemstitch, which can be combined into an elegant design to your exact wishes. We have a large variety of colours available for embroidery, although we prefer to work with our signature, sophisticated colour palette which covers shades of blue, beige, taupe with a hint of gold and ochre. And whilst you are designing, why not consider the ultimate luxury; weaving your personal initials or crest onto your sheets.
